Aashiqui 2 Movie Review

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is trying to recreate the magic of his1990 hit film, Aashiqui, with this latest version. Directed by Mohit Suri, Aashiqui 2 stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. The movie is all set to release tomorrow and we have been to an exclusive premiere. Let us see if the makers have managed to re-create the magic of the original.
Story
Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a poopular singing sensation. He falls in love with Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor) and her voice after he hears her singing in small bars. Rahul decides to launch Aarohi’s career and make her a superstar.
After grooming her and honing her skills, Rahul succeeds in making Aarohi a very big star. As Aarohi’s career rises, Rahul’s career starts descending into an abyss. He is just a pale shadow of his former self. Rahul loses confidence in himself and becomes a wreck.
This is when Aarohi decides to leave her career behind to help the love of her life .
Will Aarohi bring the sensational Rahul back to life? That forms the rest of the story…
Positive Points:
Aashiqui 2 manages to bring out an innocent romance that is lost in movies these days. Mohit Suri, who is an expert in thrillers, tries his hands in a romantic flick for the first time and he has done a pretty good job.
Aditya Roy Kapur possesses immense talent. His good looks and performances in a few dramatic sequences are worth praising. Shraddha on the other hand is beautiful and portrays the role of an innocent young woman excellently.
The chemistry between the lead pair is a thing to watch out for in the film.
Shaad Randhawa and Mahesh Thakur have done a decent job.
Negative Points:
Apart for a similar title, Aashiqui 2 has nothing in common with the 90’s blockbuster. Even though Mohit Suri tries his best to keep the plot intact, bad writing by Shagufta Rafique spoils the fun.
The story of the film is good only in bits and pieces and gets stalled by the end.
The makers have tried to create the 80’s romance but the movie proves to be more of an ‘how to quit alcohol’ session than a romantic.
Technical Points:
The songs of the movie are no doubt a hit, especially the tracks ‘Tum Hi Ho’, ‘Sun Raha Hai’ and ‘Piya Aaye Na’ . The dialogues penned down by Shagufta are a let down and don’t have the necessary impact on viewers.
Mohit Suri’s direction goes out of place in a few scenes. Cinematography by Vishnu Rao is average and so is the editing. Screenplay gets poorer as the movie progresses.
Verdict:
Aashiqui 2 has good music as well as fine performances from Aditya and Shraddha. There is a sweet romantic feel to the proceedings. However, poor writing and bad screenplay let the film down. The movie ends up being a one time watch.

Chinna Cinema Movie Review

The interestingly titled ‘Chinan Cinema’ has released today in Andhra Pradesh. The movie has been directed by NRI director A.K. Kambhampati. Arjun Kalyan and Sumona Chanda have played the lead roles while seasoned actors like Vennela Kishore, M.Balayya, Surya and L.B.Sriram have supported them. Praveen Lakkaraju has composed the film’s music.
Story :
An aspiring young director (R.J.Ghajini) sets out to make a Chinna Cinema, with a budget of Rs. 2 Crores. The movie’s producer Daange (30 years industry Prithvi) asks Ghajini to narrate the story to famous movie reviewer Sri (Vennela Kishore). This is the story that is narrated :
Ramudu (Arjun Kalyan) secures a visa and moves to the USA in search of some quick money. He joins a grocery shop that is owned by Mahesh and starts sending home money every month. Over the course of time, he meets Janaki (Sumona Chandha) and love blossoms between the pair.
Back home, an ellderly gentleman known as Bapiraju (M. Balayya) runs a special orphanage which is called ‘Ramalayam’. He struggles to make ends meet, as he is a principled man who does not seek donations from any and everyone. Ramudu’s father (Surya) is Bapiraju’s trusted follower and he tries to help Ramalayam in whatever way he can.
A local politician seeks to gain some political mileage by renaming Ramalayam after his father. But this proposal is shot down by Bapiraju, thereby injuring the pride and ego of the politician. This puts the future of Ramalayam at stake. In a curious twist of fate, it so happens that Janaki and the politician are related.
What is that relation? What happens to Ramalayam? That is the story
Plus Points :
The concepts of ‘ selfless donations ‘ and charity without expecting anything in return have been dealt with nicely. Veteran actor M.Balayya has delivered a classy and restrained performance as Bapiraju. The dangers of making people lazy by giving them everything for free, have been shown well.
Arjun Kalyan is ok as the male lead. He needs to become more comfortable and relax in front of the camera. He has subconsciously imitated Naga Chaitanya (Atleast, that is the feeling many people got) and he needs to stop doing that. Vennela Kishore entertains as movie reviewer Sri. R.J.Ghajini is good as the aspiring director.
Some scenes in the first half are good, especially the comedy scenes between friends. The song ‘Puttadi Bomma’ has been shot beautifully.
Minus Points :
Sumona Chanda is a bad choice for the female lead. She does not have the kind of face that appeals to Telugu viewers. Goutham Raju and his gang of old men are very irritating. Their ‘comedy’ scenes have been written quite poorly. Mahesh looks decent as the villain but his performance is very frigid. His voice modulation needs to change.
The actor who is seen as Mahesh’s brother in law is simply irritating. His ponytail and his dialogue delivery will test the patience of viewers. The actress who keeps speaking in Telangana dialect does not have the charm required to pull off that role.
Ravi Varma is wasted in the role of Cowboy Krishna. The entire comedy track involving Ravi Varma and his assistant is very superficial and does not bring any laughs. It also acts as a major speed breaker.
The movie’s pace drops alarmingly in the second half and the story just refuses to move forward. The romantic track between Arjun Kalyan and Sumona could have been better.
The conflict between the politician and Bapiraju does not have emotional depth and intensity. As a result, viewers will find it tough to connect to the characters. As it is the director’s first film, a number of amateurish mistakes can be observed.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography of the film is ok for the budget. Editing is poor. Dialogues are ok in places but they do not have the required depth and intensity.
A.K. Kambhampati has the fundamentals in place but he needs to work on screenplay and narration if he wants to succeed as a director. He also needs to take better care about the kind of actors he chooses for his characters.
Verdict :
‘Chinna Cinema’ is a movie that has a good concept at heart. But it is let down by amateurish execution. The movie’s social message may be appreciated by some but most mainstream viewers will find it tough to connect with the slow pace. For a debut director, A.K. has done an ok job from a technical perspective.

NH 4 Movie Review

Lover boy Siddharth’s last outing, Jabardasth failed to reach the audience expectations. This time around, he is back with an action thriller in NH4. Directed by Manimaran, this bilingual stars Ashrita Shetty as the female lead and has hit the screens this week. Let’s see how it is.
Story:-
Prabhu(Siddharth)a young guy from Anantapur, comes to Bangalore to finish his graduation. He gets admission into a famous college and falls in love with his junior Ritkika(Ashrtita Shetty). The couple spend some good times and during one of their outing, Ritika’s dad comes to know about their affair.
With the intent of keeping his political track record clean, Ritika’s dad decides to eliminate Prabhu. He hires a professional killer in Manoj Menon(K K Menon) to finish Prabhu. As Prabhu comes to know about this dangerous plot, he decides to elope with Ritika and marry her secretly.
Rest of the story is as to how Prabhu manages to get away from the professional killer and what happens at the end.
Plus Points:-
Siddharth makes a u-turn from his regular lover boy roles and does a tricky action thriller. He suits the role well and has done a remarkable job. Ashrita Shetty looks gorgeous and plays her part well. KK Menon is the highlight of the film. He looks awesome as the professional killer and also adds humor to his character.
Comedy scenes set in the college create a lot of humor. Romantic track between the lead pair has come out really well. Some scenes where the cops use technology to keep track of the couple have been captured well.
Minus Points:-
Story of the film is quite ordinary. Director tries to handle NH4 with some gutsy screenplay but falls flat on his face. As every action entertainer promises to have lots of twists, thrills and turns, this movie has some ordinary episodes.
The basic suspense element in the film is gone after a while after the twists are revealed pretty soon. First half of the movie has been dragged out and the movie unfolds only during the the second half. Those who are looking for song, dance and romantic dialogues from Siddharth will be highly disappointed.
Technical Aspects:-
Except for some romantic scenes the came work is just ordinary. If major scenes in the first half could have been edited, the film would have been more crisp. G V Prakash’s music is just mediocre and so is the background score. Only saving grace in the film are its dialogues. Manimaran’s direction is just about OK and it could have been lot better.
Verdict:
On the whole, Siddharth’s attempt to be a angry young man is just an average affair. A slow first half and not so engaging thrills go against the film completely. Watch this film without any expectations and you would be decently entertained.

Gouravam Movie Review

Sirish, the youngest member of the Allu family, is the latest entrant into the film industry from the Mega family. Unlike his other siblings, Sirish has chosen a rather unique debut with Gauravam. Directed by Radha Mohan, this movie has Yami Gautam and Prakash Raj in lead roles along with Sirish. The movie has hit the screens today, so let us see how the movie is.
Story:
Arjun (Allu Sirish) is a rich kid who has all the luxuries in life. One fine day, his dad sends him to a village called S M Palli for some business work. As Arjun’s best friend Shankar also hails from that village, Arjun happily accepts to go there. On landing in the village, Arjun comes to know that his friend Shankar has eloped with the daughter of Pashupathi(Prakash Raj), a rich land lord in the village, and is missing from the past six months.
After meeting Shankar’s dad and finding out some bitter truths about Shankar, Arjun decides to stay in the village and find his missing friend. A young lawyer called Yamini (Yami Gautam) assists him in his work.
How does Arjun unravel the whole mystery and expose the people behind it? That forms the story of ‘Gauravam’.
Positive Points:
The story of the film is unique and intense. Allu Sirish makes a decent debut with Gauravam. Rather than choosing a routine and commercial entertainer, he has acted in an author backed role. Though he looks a bit raw in some scenes, he makes it up during the second half.
Yami Gautam looks cute and plays her part well. Prakash Raj looks apt but has nothing much to do. Suspense element in the film is good. The guy who acted as Prakash Raj’s son has done a superb job. Brahmaji and L B Sriram are good.
Negative Points:
Though Gauravam is thought provoking, it is slow. First half of the movie is very long. Song, dance and other commercial elements are completely absent in the movie. Climax of the film is a bit preachy.
Interval bang and the student episodes are blown out of proportion. Yami Gautam has nothing to do in the film except to appear in the frame beside Sirish.
Too much melodrama and negative emotions can put you off sometimes. Tamil audience who love tragedy and realistic approach may like this film but this kind of a film will not be very appealing for our Telugu viewers.
Technical Aspects:
Songs in Gauravam are below average. Camera work is pretty good and showcases the village atmosphere well. Dialogues are simple. Screenplay by Radha Mohan is good in the second half but it could have been better in the first half.
Verdict:
On the whole, Gauram is an intense and thought provoking film with a unique story. But slow pace, too much melodrama and the absence of commercial elements required for Telugu viewers may go against the movie. Allu Sirish has done a decent job with his debut.

Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyindhe Movie Review

Young Hero Nithiin’s ‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyindhe’ has released today across the world. Nithiin, Nithya Menen and Isha Talwar are the lead actors in this movie, which has been directed by Vijay Kumar Konda. Sresht Movies banner has produced the film and Anoop Rubens has composed the music. The film is crucial for Nithiin, as it coming after the success of ‘Ishq’. Let us see how GJG is
Story :
The story of ‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyindhe’ is simple, but sweet. Karthik (Nithiin) is a fiercely independent youngster, who likes to live life on his terms. He believes in a hands on approach to things. During the wedding party of his friend Pandu (Ali), Karthik comes across Shruthi (Isha Talwar) and instantly falls in love with her. He obtains her phone number through Pandu and starts calling her on a regular basis.
But as fate would have it, Karthik gets the wrong number and he actually keeps calling Shravani (Nithya Menen), instead of Shruthi. Shravani is a very rich young girl, who fantasizes about falling in love with an anonymous lover. She wants someone who loves her for what she is, without caring about her beauty or her wealth. Karthik meets all her requirements and it is a dream come true for her.
A breezy romance starts over the phone. Karthik and Shravani fall in love with each other for completely different reasons. But the happiness is short lived and the story takes a twist when both parties come to know about the mix up.
What happens next? Who will Karthik end up with? Watch the film to know the rest.
Plus Points :
Nithiin is a perfect fit for the role of Karthik. Beginning with ‘Ishq’, he has transformed himself completely in terms of acting and body language. His costumes are cool and he now has a certain ease on screen. His dances in Pawan Kalyan’s remix song are outstanding. With the help of technology, the makers have shown Pawan Kalyan and Nithiin dancing together and this sequence has come out really well. Nithiin is getting good at comedy and his timing is spot on in this movie.
Nithya Menen is once again the undisputed star of the film. In a character that has multiple shades, she shines through brilliantly. Nithya has very expressive eyes and she uses them to devastating effect while conveying emotions. Her performance is a treat to watch in this movie.
The chemistry between Nithiin and Nithya is outstanding and is a major highlight for the movie. Their scenes have been written and shot very well. The romantic track between Nithiin and Nithya has a lot of depth. There is tenderness, humour and emotional bonding between the characters. Climax sequence is good and the scenes will tug at your heartstrings.
Isha Talwar is decent. Ali entertains well as Nithiin’s friend. Thagubothu Ramesh brings a few laughs in a brief role. Madhu has performed well as Nithiin’s friend and his romantic track with Isha Talwar is quite humorous.
Clever screenplay and intelligent humour are the film’s biggest assets. Pace of narration is fast and the entertainment quotient is maintained right through the film. Songs have been shot well, especially the title song, Pawan Kalyan’s remix song and ‘Thu hi Re’.
There are a number of references to Pawan Kalyan and the famous ‘nadum’ scene from ‘Khushi’ has been used cleverly in the film.
Minus Points :
When compared to the first half, the second half loses pace slightly for a while. Jwala Gutta is not very effective as a dancer.
Some cinematic liberties have been taken with the story. When you speak to someone for hours together on the phone, and consider that person as your soul mate, will you not recognise that voice when he/she comes in front of you?
The gay comedy scenes are fun for a while, but may not be enjoyed by everyone – especially family crowds. Raghu Babu is wasted in a comedy track that does not really gel with the rest of the film.
Technical Aspects :
Andrew’s cinematography is very good and it lends a rich feel to the visuals. Editing is very good. Dialogues are superb and they are a big asset for the film. Anoop Rubens has composed the film’s music and he has done a good job.
Vijay Kumar Konda shows great promise as a director. It is quite tough to engage the attention of viewers with such a simple storyline, but he succeeds.
Verdict :
‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyindhe’ is a nicely written and well executed romantic comedy. Superb chemistry between Nithiin and Nithya, a high comedy quotient and intelligent screenplay make this film a very enjoyable watch. Nithiin has a potential Box Office winner on his hands.
