RGV's Psycho Movie Review

Maverick movie maker Ram Gopal Varma has provided the script and screenplay for a new movie titled ‘Psycho’. The movie is releasing today in Andhra Prasesh. We were invited to a special premiere of the film two days ago. So let us see how this movie is.
Story :
Meera(Nisha Kothari) is an independent and hard working young woman. She is the sole bread winner for her family. Her simple life takes an unexpected twist when a tall, well built and well groomed stranger walks into her life. At first, the meetings are simple and harmless. Meera treats him as a minor nuisance and nothing else.
But things start getting ugly very soon. The stranger starts stalking Meera obsessively and begins to disturb her life. Violent physical confrontations follow and Meera runs to the cops for help. But she finds no real assistance from them.
She must now turn to her friends and family for support and protection. What happens in the end? Will the psycho spare Meera? That needs to be watched on the big screen.
Plus Points :
Nisha Kothari has portrayed the role of Meera in an acceptable way. The guy who has played the role of a psycho has done a very convincing job.
The short run time of the film is a big bonus. The theme selected by RGV has promise.
Minus :
The film is one big psychotic mess.’Rogue Methdology’ was received terribly by the general public when it was showcased in the film ‘Department’. But RGV and his proteges have not given up on this method yet. The end result is a splitting headache for viewers after 90 minutes. This rogue methodology is the single biggest reason for making ‘Psycho’ unwatchable.
After starting off in a convincing and realistic fashion, the movie loses its way and ends up being superficial, melodramatic and foolish.
The film will be quite tough for casual entertainment seekers to digest. Entertainment quotient is zero, as can be expected in films of this genre.
The confrontation scenes between Nisha and the Psychotic guy could have been a lot better. There is no emotional depth in these scenes.
Milind Gunaji is wasted in a poorly scripted cameo.
The movie’s climax is quite outlandish and bizarre.
Technical Aspects :
Camera angles are good but the quality of cinematography as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. Sound effects are neat. Editing is not upto the mark.
Kishore Bhargava’s direction is not upto the mark. His work leaves a lot to be desired.
Verdict :
RGV’s ‘Psycho’ lives up to its name. The movie is a big psychotic mess. The camera angles will leave you with a splitting headache. You can safely skip this film.

Raanjhanaa Movie Review

Dhanush, one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema and a national award winner, makes his debut in Bollywood with Anand Rai’s much awaited film ‘Raanjhanaa’. This romantic drama also stars Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in other key roles and is all set to hit the theatres tomorrow. Bollywood3 has been to a special screening of ‘Raanjhanaa’ and we are bringing you an exclusive review of the film well in advance and so read on to know more.
Story :
‘Raanjhanaa’ is a term used in Uttar Pradesh to refer to a person who is deeply and madly in love with someone. In this context, ‘Raanjhanaa’ is a story of Kundan (Dhanush), a Hindu Brahmin boy, living in the holy city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. In his childhood, Kundan falls in love with Zoya (Sonam Kapoor), a Muslim girl, and goes on to chase her till he turns 16. A series of events lead to Zoya being sent to Allahabad for further studies by her parents and soon Zoya forgets Kundan. She then returns to Varanasi after eight long years where Kundan is still eagerly and patiently waiting for the love of his life. But little does our Raanjhanaa know that Zoya is now a big girl and has fallen in love with her co-student and youth politician (Abhay Deol).
The focus then shifts to the question of whether Kundan can finally win Zoya’s love? This one question is what the rest of the movie is all about!
Positive Points :
Raanjhanaa moves smoothly ahead from a cute childhood love story to an intense and mature one. Director Anand has very creatively directed the scenes that simultaneously amuse and charm the viewers.
Talking about performances, I would like to start with Naman Jain, the child artist who plays the young Dhanush. Last seen in the Zoya Akthar segment of ‘Bombay Talkies’, Naman delivers a performance that clears marks him as a future superstar. Sonam Kapoor comes up with an intense portrayal of a character who is a mix of beauty and power and she gives an applause- worthy performance. Then there is Abhay Deol who doesn’t have too many scenes but still manages to grab the viewers’ interest everytime he walks into a scene. Swara Bhaskar and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, the other characters from Varanasi, have given splendid performances and the quirky dialogue delivery by Zeeshan will definitely have you in splits.
Now if you are still wondering why Dhanush is still not being mentioned, that’s because I was saving the best for the last! Dhanush may have become popular across India for his singing talent in ‘Kolaveri Di’, but his acting in ‘Raanjhanaa’ is nothing less than a wonderful revelation for viewers. He is the surprise package and his sheer talent in playing a lovable and intense loverboy has the viewers longing for more. Whether it is the comic or the intense scenes, Dhanush leaves no room for error and proves that his earlier National Award for acting was well deserved.
Negative Points :
Though the first half doesn’t let the viewers take their eyes of the screen, the second half turns out to be a little inappropriate. The second half suffers mainly because of the political sequences which are not that important and this stretches the movie to an extent that the audiences get bored. The romance vanishes off the screens and takes the audiences interest levels down. Despite his talent, Abhay Deol is clearly wasted in the film where he clearly does not have much to do.
Technical Aspects :
After a long gap, music maestro A R Rahman has come up with an interesting album that expresses romance in a many unique ways. Some of the tracks like ‘Tum Tak’ and ‘Raanjhanaa’ are extremely lovable and fit smoothly in the narrative.
The cinematography is first-rate as the camera easily captures the minute religious and cultural aspects of Varanasi. Also, the editing and background score is above average. However, lot of credit should go to the dialogues which are the film’s biggest strengths and take the film to a different level. The typical north Indian dialogues make the scenes look even more realistic and authentic and this where Director Anand scores.
Verdict :
Overall, ‘Raanjhanaa’ is a story of love and treachery with some surprisingly awesome performances by the entire cast. Despite a slow second half the film’s other strengths make the movie a must watch!

Action 3D Movie Update Review - First On Net

Comedy King Allari Naresh’s ‘Action 3D’ is all set for its grand release on the 21st. The movie has been premiered at Prasad Labs and we are bringing you this review after watching the special show. Anil Sunkara is the director and producer of this big budget extravaganza. Sneha Ullal and Neelam Upadhyay are the heroines in this movie. Kick Shyam, Vaibhav and Raju Sundaram are the other lead actors. Let us see how the movie is.
Story :
The film starts off with Posani Krishna Murali and Sunil. Posani is a film director and Sunil is the hero. This is a story that Sunil narrates to Posani.
Bava (Allari Naresh), Ajay (Kick Shyam), Shiva (Vaibhav) and Purush (Raju Sundaram) are thick friends. They grow up together and share everything in life. While Bava is an easy going person, Ajay and Shiva are seen as more mature and responsible people. Purush is a comical flirt. Ajay is all set to marry his sweetheart Shruthi (Sheena), so the four friends decide to celebrate the last few days of Ajay’s bachelorhood in Goa.
While travelling to the beach paradise, Bava comes across Geetha (Neelam) and instantly falls for her. He starts trying to woo her but is not too successful. Once they reach Goa, the four friends decid to get drunk and have fun. They wake up with a heavy Hangover and all hell breaks loose when they discover that a member is missing from their gang.
As the wedding date approaches, they desperately search for the missing guy. Will they succeed in their efforts? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :
The film has really good 3D effects. There are a number of scenes where viewers will experience high quality 3D sequences and the entire team must be appreciated for having the courage and the conviction to attempt this film.
Allari Naresh is really good in the lead role. He has tried his best to make the comedy work. Kick Shyam and Vaibhav are ok. Raju Sundaram brings a few laughs with his antics and punches. Sudeep is brilliant in a cameo appearance. Sneha Ullal has come up with a very glamorous performance in the film. Neelam Upadhyay is neat and effective.
Brahmanamdam is ok as Magnet Mama. M.S.Narayana entertains with spoofs on Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan and Siddharth. Master Bharath has done a decent job.
Songs have been shot well. ‘Ding Dong Bell’ and ‘Swathy Muthyapu Jallulalo’ have excellent visuals.
Minus Points :
If you have seen ‘The Hangover’, you will know what will happen in most of the scenes.
The film keeps losing pace at times, especially during the forest episodes and the climax sequences. Some scenes should have been edited out to improve the overall experience.
Some of the comedy sequences appear a little outdated and cliched.
Technical Aspects :
The film’s cinematographer and stereographer need to be appreciated for doing a very fine job with the visuals. Editing could have been a lot better. Sunny’s background score is decent. Dialogues are ok in places but they are not too impressive.
Director Anil Sunkara has done a good job with the visuals and he has taken care of the technical aspects in a proficient manner. But the screenplay and scene development could have been better. Production values are rich.
Verdict :
Action has impressive 3D effects. The film has some good moments and very nice visuals. Allari Naresh, Raju Sundaram and Sneha Ullal are the positive aspects of the film. On the flip side, better screenplay and dialogues would have really helped the movie. Overall, Action 3D can be watched for the sincere effort that went in to the making of TFI’s first true 3D film.

Prema Katha Chitram Movie Review

Sudheer Babu, brother in law of Superstar Mahesh Babu, is trying his luck with ‘Prema Katha Chitram’. This is his second film and it has released across the world today. The movie’s script has been penned by Maruthi and he has also ‘supervised’ the direction of the film. Nandhita is the heroine of the movie. Let us see how this movie is
Story :
Sudheer (Sudheer Babu), Praveen (Praveen) and Nandhu (Nandhita) are three dejected and depressed youngsters. They are fed up with their lives and decide to commit suicide. The three of them travel to a remote farmhouse to spend the last moments of their life. On the way, they are joined by Giri (Giri).
As they settle down into the farmhouse and prepare themselves for their last moments. As you can expect, love blossoms between Sudher and Nandhu. But when they try to get close to each other, strange things start happening.
Sudheer and his friends realise that the farmhouse contains a dark secret. The place has a violent past. While investigating these incidents, Sudheer also realises that some of his friends have other motives.
What is the dark secret of that farmhouse? What happens to Sudheer and friends in the end? That is the story of ‘Prema Katha Chitram’.
Plus Points :
Sudheer Babu has done a very good job in this movie. He has succeeded in showcasing the emotions of fear and surprise effectively. There is a short dance sequence in the film, which gives us an idea about his dancing abilities.
Nandhita is the real star of the film. She is simply brilliant. There are certain sequences where she is required to exhibit dramatic changes in behaviour and she has excelled in those scenes. She also looks quite cute and vulnerable where required.
Pravin succeeds in making viewers laugh with his Godavari slang. Giri is simply brilliant in two sequences, where he interacts with the ‘supernatural force’. The ‘Draupadi Vastrapaharanam’ sequence has been shot hilariously.
The entertainment quotient in the film is very high. There is an intelligent mix of humour, horror and romance in the film and viewers will connect to all three emotions well. The film’s biggest USP is the hilarious and racy second half.
There are a few trademark double meaning dialogues from Maruthi, but they are limited and don’t give a vulagar feel. Re-recording is a big asset for the movie. Sound and camera angles have been used effectively.
Minus Points :
The movie starts off slowly and stumbles for the first 20 – 30 minutes. There are some needless sequences, like the MLA slapping scene etc. These scenes are quite irritating and should have been chopped off.
The climax fight could have been avoided as it really does not add much to the storyline. One gets the feeling that it was placed there on purpose, to prove that Sudheer can fight. Some cinematic liberties have also been taken.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography of the film is good. For a horror/thriller film to work, sound and camera angles are crucial. Both departments have been handled well in PKC. Editing is neat. JB’s background score is good. Sound mixing is very effective.
Prabhakar Reddy might have been the director, but Maruthi’s stamp is very obvious. This movie will succeed in giving an image makeover to Maruthi.
Verdict :
Humour, Horror and Romance are base human emotions. When they are handled effectively, viewers will connect strongly to a story. The same is the case with ‘Prema Katha Chitram’. The entertaining and thrilling second half will make you happy. Don’t miss this flick.

Iddarammayilatho Movie Review

Stylish Star Allu Arjun’s ‘Iddarammayilatho’ is all set for its theatrical release on the 31st. The movie has been directed by Puri Jagan and Bandla Ganesh is the producer. Allu Arjun’s previous film, ‘Julayi’,was a big hit so there are high expectation on this movie. Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music. Let us see how ‘Iddarammayilatho’ is
Story :
Sanju Reddy (Allu Arjun) is the lead guitarist of a band (comprising of Srinivasa Reddy, Khayyum and two other women) which is based in Spain. Akanksha (Catherine Tresa) is the rich and pampered kid of a Union Minister ( Rao Ramesh ). She heads to Spain for her higher studies and moves into a lovely house. Here, she comes across a diary which has been left by the previous tenant. The diary belongs to Komali Sankarabharanam (Amala Paul) and it chronicles the warm love story between Komali and Sanju.
Akanksha instantly connects to the story and finds herself becoming very attached to the characters of Komali and Sanju. She comes across Sanju in real life and starts teasing him by passing off snippets from the diary as her own psychological predictions.
The story in the diary comes to an abrupt end and Akanksha confronts Sanju about the same. A tragic fact is then revealed by Sanju, a fact that shakes Akanksha to the core. She starts developing romantic feelings for Sanju and proposes to him. But the story takes yet another twist here.
What are the twists? Who is Sanju? Why did the story in the diary stop abruptly? To know that, watch ‘Iddarammayilatho’
Plus Points :
Allu Arjun is at his stylish best in the movie. His costumes are very nice and his overall look is quite sophisticated. His dance has a lot of grace. He has danced to medleys of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s hit songs and these bits will entertain fans. The movie has two nice action sequences and Allu Arjun has performed quite convincingly in those episodes.
Catherine Tresa looks drop dead gorgeous in this film. Her costumes and generous skin show will drive youngsters crazy. If she plays her cards right, she is here to stay as the next big female star. The romantic episodes involving Allu Arjun and Catherine have come out well. Amala Paul is ok in the role of a traditional Brahmin girl. She has given a convincing performance as a shy and timid girl.
The interval bang has been executed well and the story gains momentum here. ‘Run Run’, ‘Violin Song’ and ‘Top Lechipoddi’ have been shot nicely. The twist in the final stages of the film is nice and the story picks up good pace from that point onwards until the climax.
Minus Points :
The comedy episodes featuring Brahmanandam and Ali and are not very convincing. Brahmanandam will be seen as Phidel Brahma and Ali will be seen as a psychopath named Gudivada Krishna. Shawar Ali looks monotonous as an international Don. Subba Raju is wasted once again.
The pace of the movie is a little slow in the second half. The film picks up momentum only after the final twist is revealed. The placement of songs in the first half could have been better. Fans expect ‘special’ dance moves from Allu Arjun, but this film does not have any such steps.
Traditionally, a hero in a Puri Jagan film has an arrogant swagger about him. The character treatment will ensure a high entertainment quotient. But that is not the case with ‘Iddarammayilatho’. Heroism is sorely missing from Allu Arjun’s character in this movie.
Technical Aspects :
Locations in the film are quite nice. Amol Rathod’s cinematography is very good in a few scenes but it is surprisingly mediocre in some sequences. One gets the feeling that some of the visuals suffer from overexposure. Sekkhar’s editing is ok but a few scenes could have been trimmed in the second half. The bold one liners and punch dialogues that fans expect in a Puri Jagan film are very few in number. DSP’s background score is effective.
In terms of direction and character treatment, you will see a very different Puri Jagan in this movie. This Puri is more sober and mature. Is that a good thing for his fans? I am not very sure. Some people succeed most when they are bold and aggressive. Puri is one such guy.
Verdict :
‘Iddarammayilatho’ is a very stylish offering from Puri Jagan. Allu Arjun’s performance, Catherine’s glamour and the action sequences are assets for the film. Slow pace in the second half and the absence of traditional Puri Jagan elements like heroism and punch dialogues might hamper the overall experience.

Movie Rating........3/5
