Fast & Furious 6 Review

Fast and Furious 6′ is the latest flick in the super hit ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise. The series is very popular in India and premiere shows were held today in many major towns, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on the 24th. The film has been directed by Justin Lin. Michelle Rodriguez makes a full fledged return to the series and the rest of the star cast is intact. Let us see how this movie is.
Story :
Toretto (Vin Diesel) and O’Connor (Paul Walker) lead a life of peace and happiness, after having retired from their notorious profession. Connor and Mia (Jordana Brewster) are blessed with a baby boy, much to the delight of the entire family.
But this happiness is short lived. DSS Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) comes into their lives with some shocking news. Torretto’s girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), who was presumed to be dead, is seen in some very bad company. She has become a part of a dangerous gang headed by Shaw (Luke Evans), a gang that is hell bent on creating a special weapon that can cripple an entire nation.
An emotionally upset Torretto must now stop Shaw and Letty from creating this weapon. He must also find about Letty’s mysterious comeback. What happened to her? Why did she turn? More importantly, does she still love Toretto?
That is what this movie is all about
Plus Points :
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson have delivered solid performances, as always. Vin Diesel has built up his physique and he looks quite menacing. Dwayne Johnson drew loud cheers from viewers whenever he bashed up bad guys.
Gina Carano and Michelle Rodriguez provide some brilliant entertainment in the film. They indulge in a very physical fist fight and this sequence has been shot quite well.
For car lovers, the movie is going to be a treat to watch. The Skylines, the Challengers, the Chargers – they are all there. The first half of the film is quite entertaining, with some nice humour and well choreographed chase sequences. Tyrese Gibson and Chris Bridges keep the humour alive throughout the film.
For an action flick, there is good emotional depth to the proceedings. The twist in closing stages of the film is good.
Minus Points :
The film’s climax sequence is quite a disappointment. The stunts are just way too unbelievable and downright foolish. For example, the runway in the climax sequence seems to have infinite length. Logic goes for a big toss in this film.
The second half does not have the same pace as that of the first half. Some of the stunt sequences in the second half are unnecessarily long.
Letty’s comeback has not been handled in a convincing way. I do not want to reveal the twists in the plot, but the reason given for the change in her behaviour is very cliched.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography is good and Stephen Wendon has done an impressive job. Editing is neat. The VFX work is ok. Lucas Vidal’s background score is effective.
Justin Lin has done a good job in the first half. But one gets the impression that he got carried away in the second half.
Verdict :
Fast and Furious 6 is a decent time pass entertainer. Fast cars, beautiful women and nice action sequences – the film has them all. The first half is very good, but an almost ridiculous climax spoils the overall viewing experience a bit. Leave logic behind and you can have some fun.

Movie Rating....3/5
